Wow! Another
great start to yet another amazing TERM…
TERM #3
and we are all back refreshed from a great well deserved break ready for a lot of
CHANGE and more fun learning.
Our new FOCUS
STATEMENT for this term:
Lights,
Camera, Take Action for Change!
And FOCUS QUESTION:
How can I tell a story about change
through film?
This week we looked at a story called
Boundless Grace to set the scene for Change.
This is
an adorable book about a young African-American girl named Grace. Grace’s
mother and father split up when Grace was a very young child. Her father lives
in Africa and Grace lives with her mother in the United States.
Grace
feels that her family “isn’t right” because it doesn’t resemble the families
that she reads about in her school books. When an unexpected plane ticket
arrives for Grace and her grandmother, Grace feels so nervous that she won’t
remember her father or fit in with his new family.
Upon
arrival to her father’s home in The Gambia, Grace faces her new brothers and
sisters and her beautiful new stepmother. Grace has trouble accepting the new
stepmother at first but soon finds her to be a lovely addition to her life.
Grace
leaves Africa with a new feeling that family is what you make of it and her
family is special just the way it is.
